Transform water infrastructure across the UK
Tetra Tech’s Water Consultancy is seeking multiple Civil Design Engineers to support long‑term water industry frameworks across the UK, including a £100m United Utilities single‑award framework for river health in the North West. You will produce outline and detailed designs, construction‑ready drawings and documentation for sewerage, pumping stations, rising mains and site layouts. Daily activities include client engagement, feasibility and optioneering inputs, interdisciplinary coordination and technical deliverables for multi‑million‑pound programmes within AMP8 and AMP9. You will work in multidisciplinary teams and mentor graduate engineers as required.
Your Impact In This Position
In the short term you will deliver accurate design packages that enable confident procurement and construction. Over the medium term you will lead design workstreams, improve technical efficiency and support low‑carbon solutions.
Core Capabilities
* Technical design proficiency - Produce robust outline and detailed civil designs, calculations and construction documentation to UK standards.
* Multidisciplinary coordination - Integrate civil inputs with structural, mechanical, electrical and ICA disciplines and lead design reviews.
* Client and stakeholder engagement - Translate client requirements into pragmatic design solutions and maintain clear, professional liaison with contractors and partners.
* Delivery & quality assurance - Manage design outputs to time, cost and quality targets, applying CDM and assurance processes.
* People development & leadership - Mentor junior staff, share best practice and contribute to team capability and knowledge capture.
Skills, Qualifications And Experience
Expected: degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. Desirable: postgraduate qualifications and chartership or working towards chartership; membership of a relevant professional institution.
Work patterns & locations
Hybrid roles across regional offices with regular site visits; typical office attendance 2–3 days per week. Flexible working considered to support delivery and career development.
