The starting salary for this position is £36,873 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.

Surrey County Council's Children Not In School Service have an opportunity for two Elective Home Education Officers to join them. The vacancies we have:

* 1 x Full Time, 12-month fixed term contract/ secondment opportunity

About the Role

In this role you will be responsible for liaising between home, schools and other agencies in order to improve the outcomes for electively home-educated children.

Working as part of the Children Not in School Service you will support parents to fulfil their legal responsibility of ensuring that their child is in receipt of an education in line with their age aptitude and ability. This will involve liaising with schools, parents and other relevant professionals.

You will be responsible for ensuring parents are aware of their rights and responsibilities as home educators. Working closely with elective home-educated families, other relevant professionals as well as Surrey's Attendance Service, your role will be to support families in the community. You will need an understanding of the statutory nature of elective home education and be responsible for producing reports, preparing court files and referring to other agencies. You will also advise schools and the Surrey Attendance Service on best practice regarding elective home education.

Shortlisting Criteria
To be considered for shortlisting for this position your application will evidence:

* A good standard of education
* Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written),
* Evidence of recent career development.
* Comfortable and confident communicating with parents, children and other professionals.

In this role you will be required to travel throughout the county therefore you must possess a current full driving licence and will need your own vehicle insured for business purposes.

* Provide an example of a time you had to communicate complex legal or educational information to a parent or carer. How did you ensure your message was understood?
