Senior/Principal Planning Officer
Location: High Street, Esher, KT10 9SD

Contract Duration: 3+ Months
Working Hours: Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00, 37 Hours per week
Pay Rate: £ 45.00 Per Hour

. Job Responsibilities
Help manage an area team in Development Management.
Evaluate and report on planning applications, enforcement, and appeals.
Advise on potential developments and all aspects of Development Management.
Examine applications before registration for validity and necessary publicity.
Process applications, including major ones, and make recommendations.
Handle appeals and present the Council’s case at hearings and inquiries.
Investigate unauthorized activities when needed.
Attend meetings to assist in reporting and considering applications.
Support the Team Leader in supervising Planning Officers.
Provide excellent customer service.
Perform other tasks as required for the role.
Sign planning decisions for certain applications if on Principal Scale Points.
Person Specifications
Must Have
Significant experience in Development Management, especially major applications.
Experience representing the Council at hearings or inquiries.
Good organizational skills.
Understanding of Local Government procedures.
Experience with new information technology systems.
Ability to manage and motivate a professional team.
Good communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
Knowledge of relevant legislation and Government guidance.
Commitment to excellent customer care.
Full driving license and own vehicle.
Willingness to attend evening meetings as needed.
Ability to handle work pressure.
Nice to Have
A degree in Town & Country Planning or equivalent and eligibility for Royal Town Planning Institute membership.
Previous experience in staff supervision.
