Due to recent staff changes we have a great opportunity for an experienced neurology nurse to become our next Band 6 Sister/charge nurse on Bleasdale Unit

Our Regional Unit is comprised of 22 acute neurology beds. We can offer you great potential to build on your already established band 5 skills in leadership and management skills

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and highly motivated nurse with up-to-date knowledge of acute neurology medicine to join our existing team. You must have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills to support, teach and develop the team further. In addition to direct patient care the role will involve supporting the Ward Manager and deputising effectively in their absence.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse or Matron in ensuring the provision of excellent care with compassion for the patients, relatives and visitors who are cared for within or by the ward, department, service or team.

Ensure a high standard of nursing is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence-based guidelines.

Assist and support the Ward Manager in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes

Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation

Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

1. Appropriate NMC Registration
2. Diploma or Degree in Nursing
3. Evidence of continuing professional education or development in area of speciality

Desirable criteria

4. Degree
5. Post registration qualification in speciality area
6. NMC recognised Mentorship qualification or demonstrable mentoring experience and willingness to complete course

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

7. Evidence of leadership experience and learning
8. Awareness of recent advances within Nursing practice
9. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and safeguarding and the relevance to practice
10. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
11. Experience of implementing changes to benefit patients and improve nursing practice
12. Knowledge of Ethical issues

Desirable criteria

13. Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality e.g. surgery
14. Knowledge of Research and Development
