Our Client has a requirement for a Health and Safety Manager, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Glasgow. Role Purpose: We are seeking an experienced and proactive Health and Safety Manager to lead and maintain high standards of safety, health, and well-being within major construction, civil engineering, marine, and defence-related infrastructure programmes. The successful candidate will offer expert guidance to senior leaders, project managers, and site teams to embed health and safety into all activities. Reporting to the Programme Head of Health and Safety, you will work closely with other H&S Managers and provide direct support to programme management and supervision teams. You will serve as the key focal point for all health and safety matters across the project lifecycle—from pre-construction and design development through to on-site delivery, commissioning, and handover. Job Role Responsibilities: Ensure all activities comply with applicable health and safety legislation, including CDM Regulations, statutory guidance, and local governance requirements. Provide expert H&S advice to leadership, project managers, and site-based teams. Support the development and review of health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with organisational arrangements, industry standards, and specific project requirements. Review health and safety documentation from designers and contractors (e.g., RAMS), with a focus on high-risk activities during all phases of project delivery. Liaise closely with operational stakeholders to ensure local procedures and safety protocols are upheld. Support Principal Designers and Principal Contractors in identifying hazards and implementing effective risk control measures. Develop and deliver safety awareness training to staff and subcontractors. Encourage a proactive safety culture through briefings, workshops, and regular engagement. Collaborate with colleagues to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities in health and safety performance. Coordinate with operational and maintenance teams to ensure seamless health and safety practices Investigate incidents, near-misses, and accidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Maintain detailed records and produce incident reports as required. Conduct regular site inspections and audits Engage with design teams, contractors, and regulators to ensure H&S is considered at all stages of project planning and delivery. Act as the primary point of contact for H&S audits and external inquiries. Oversee Principal Contractor activities across the full project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with regulatory and operational requirements. Support lessons-learned and knowledge-sharing initiatives across the programme. Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications: Substantial experience managing health and safety in complex infrastructure environments (e.g., construction, civil engineering, marine, defence). In-depth understanding of relevant legislation and standards, with a strong emphasis on CDM Regulations. Minimum of 10 years' experience in construction/engineering roles, with proven capability in health and safety management across the project lifecycle. Professional qualifications such as NEBOSH, HNC/HND, or relevant Degree. Membership of IOSH or IIRSM is desirable. Strong leadership skills with the ability to promote and embed a culture of safety. Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders. Demonstrated track record of delivering innovative and effective H&S improvements. Proven ability to chair H&S meetings and engage effectively throughout all phases of programme delivery.
