About the role

Are you a natural problem-solver with a passion for making things work better? The Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford is looking for an experienced and collaborative Change and Continuous Improvement Manager to help us enhance our HR operations and strengthen the way we support our people.

Reporting directly to the Head of HR, you’ll lead a series of improvement projects focused on streamlining HR processes — from recruitment to day-to-day operational workflows — ensuring our systems and practices are as effective and efficient as the world-class academic community we serve.

You’ll build strong partnerships across HR, academic departments, and senior leadership to understand priorities and drive improvement. You’ll support and train colleagues to embed improvement practices, develop performance metrics to track success, and share lessons learned to promote a culture of continuous improvement across the department.

You’ll be joining a welcoming, high-performing HR team at one of the world’s most respected universities. This is a rare opportunity to help shape how we work, drive meaningful change, and leave a lasting impact on our people and processes.

About you

You’re a confident communicator who builds positive relationships and influences effectively at all levels. Organised and analytical, you have a keen eye for process detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Experienced in improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma, you bring curiosity, initiative, and a focus on making things work better.

Experience in higher education or the public sector would be an advantage.

The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry.

We are looking for someone to start in this role as soon as possible.

Application Process

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online (via the “Apply” button above) and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your application. In your supporting statement (< 2 pages), please explain how you meet each of the selection criteria found in the job description.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday, 11 November 2025, UK time. Interviews will take place during week commencing 17 November 2025 and will be face to face.

The University of Oxford and The Department of Chemistry are Silver Athena SWAN holders and committed to equality and valuing diversity.
