 
        
        Senior Electrical Engineer – Environment Agency
We are looking for an experienced electrical engineer with expertise in high, medium, low, and extra-low voltage electrical systems and equipment. The role will be part of the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team, providing technical engineering leadership across HV and LV power systems, control systems, SCADA, telemetry, and water management assets.
Responsibilities
Influence and shape how we deliver our service into the future. As a Technical Authority you will provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation to meet objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and meet commitments to net zero carbon. You will manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules for HV and LV power systems and control systems across assets such as pumping stations and flood defence structures.
You will deliver competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on electrical systems and equipment and hold a national incident response role which may be within normal working hours or out of hours.
Qualifications & Experience
 * Knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
 * Knowledge of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
 * Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
 * Experience in developing and delivering safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
 * Experience testing, isolating, and proving high and low voltage electrical systems.
 * Strong understanding of risk-based approaches to electrical maintenance philosophies, including FMEA and reliability systems.
 * Drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
 * Excellent work management, teamwork, communication skills.
 * UK driving licence.
 * Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and Chartered Engineer registration with UK Engineering Council or evidence of working toward registration within 12 months.
