Nelson Permanent Placements are recruiting for a Reliability Engineer for their client who provides critical engineering support to their industrial manufacturing clients in the Preston area.
This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced Reliability Engineer to play a key part in improving asset performance and reducing downtime at a client site. The position blends hands-on mechanical and electrical breakdown support with proactive reliability engineering, focusing on data-driven decision-making, continuous improvement, and long-term asset optimisation. The successful candidate will be instrumental in enhancing equipment reliability, improving lifecycle costs, and embedding best-practice maintenance strategies across site operations.
To be considered for this role as a Reliability Engineer you will have:
* A minimum of 5 years’ experience in maintenance, reliability, or engineering roles
* Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification (ECITB and CompEx Ex11 desirable)
* Level 3 Diploma / NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (18th Edition desirable)
* Strong knowledge of reliability engineering tools and methodologies, including RCM, RCA, FMEA and Weibull analysis
* Hands-on experience with predictive and preventive maintenance strategies
* Experience using CMMS systems such as SAP or Maximo, alongside data analysis tools such as Excel or Power BI
* Familiarity with ISO 55000 asset management principles
* Professional certifications such as ARP, CMRP or CRL (desirable)
* Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification (desirable)
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions
The key responsibilities of this role a Reliability Engineer:
* Supporting the implementation of reliability-centred maintenance (RCM) and predictive maintenance (PdM) programmes
* Conducting asset care and reliability pillar assessments to identify gaps, risks and improvement opportunities
* Analysing maintenance and asset performance data to identify trends and drive improvement initiatives
* Developing, monitoring and reporting key performance indicators such as OEE, MTBF and MTTR
* Carrying out root cause analysis (RCA) and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) for asset failures and recurring issues
* Driving continuous improvement through the adoption of new technologies and reliability methodologies
* Supporting and developing maintenance teams through training in RCM principles
* Collaborating with site teams to embed condition monitoring techniques, including vibration analysis, thermography and oil analysis
* Providing site-based support on reliability issues, best practice maintenance, and preventative strategies
* Leading and influencing long-term asset reliability planning and capital investment decisions
The employment package for a Reliability Engineer is:
* Expected wage between up to £60,000 depending on experience
* Monday to Friday 7am – 3pm, 40 hours per week
* Overtime paid at x1.5 Monday to Saturday (outside normal working hours)
* Sunday overtime paid at x2
