As a Design Engineer, you will transform a creative brief or concept sketches into fully engineered solutions. Providing technical development and a set of highly accurate specifications and technical drawings. Projects will be centered around the design for manufacture of Retail Display equipment (such as shelving systems, retail furniture and freestanding displays). Materials and disciplines at your disposal will likely include metalwork, timber, plastics, glass or any other material you see fit for purpose.
Job Role
Use Solidworks 3D CAD to produce technical piece-part, assembly and GA drawings of new Retail Display equipment
Manage CAD files and the design workflow
Catalogue files according to the desired operational output
Function checking of prototypes, supplier samples and first offs
Value engineering of existing designs
Participate in structural load testing
Assess the structural integrity of suggested designs with the associated Development Manager
Support with risk assessments, O&M’s and assembly/install guides, seeking direction from the Development Manager as required
Site visits, to assess retail display equipment in the field and conduct physical surveys
Skills and Experience
Degree qualified in a relevant design subject, with at least 1 year of industry experience
Experience working at an equipment manufacturer with an on-site factory
Proficient in the use of Solidworks and PDM Vault
Shopfitting design experience would be advantageous
Organised and methodical, with excellent attention to detail
Self-motivated and works well under pressure
Excellent problem solving capabilities
Able to work within a small team and with staff at all levels
Able to articulate all elements of the design process with colleagues
Use initiative to develop and improve working methods
Multitask and constantly reassess timescales and priorities
