Overview
Grant Thornton's Financial Services Tax team provides tax advisory, transactions and compliance services to clients in the Financial Services market across Wealth and Asset Management, Banking and Capital Market and Insurance sectors. Our Wealth and Asset Management team is one of the fastest growing areas of Grant Thornton's Financial Services Tax practice. We have ambitious growth plans and are looking for an experienced, self‑motivated and enthusiastic Director with a strong UK corporation tax background and experience in working with authorised fund and hedge fund markets.
Key Responsibilities
* Work with the leadership team in FS Tax, overseeing a significant portfolio of asset management clients in the authorised fund and hedge fund markets.
* Oversee tax compliance and advisory services covering both funds and asset managers, working with specialists in other areas or internationally as appropriate.
* Ensure a continuous focus on quality in content and delivery of all services.
* Drive automation and technology initiatives, including development of the existing reporting fund automation tool to enable pan‑European fund reporting.
* Represent Grant Thornton and present at conferences as an asset management tax leader, delivering insights and working with trade bodies.
* Hold accountability for the financial growth plan for the funds business, with particular focus on reporting funds and UK authorised funds.
* Contribute to building a team that will deliver services enabling a greater focus on market‑facing opportunities.
* Secure new work across the following areas: tax advisory for a range of funds and asset managers; operational taxes at product level (FATCA, CRS, CARF, withholding taxes, tax reclaims, Individual Savings Accounts, Stamp Tax and FTT); transfer pricing services for financial and treasury transactions; innovation tax claims (R&D, CAs); tax governance (CCO, SAO, internal audit of tax); VAT (PESM, systems reviews, asset management specific matters); employment taxes and global mobility.
Qualifications
* A professional qualification (CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent) and confidence managing a portfolio of clients.
* Excellent UK tax technical skills with specific knowledge of UK reporting funds legislation and taxation of UK authorised funds (including LTAFs, QAHCs, ACSs), investment trusts and unauthorised unit trusts, and UK taxation of asset managers (both corporates and LLPs) for authorised and hedge fund managers.
* Responsible for the audit of tax for these entities.
* Confident in leading a business and being accountable for its success.
* Strong business development skills with a desire to grow the business and the team.
* Clear and effective communication style to work with clients and senior leadership.
* Strong commitment to client service, always looking to add value.
* Strong team player with demonstrable success in managing others.
