Description Due to a growing team the position of Tunnel & Crossing Superintendent- North has become available to join a major Energy project based in Teesside. The Superintendent (Tunnel No.2) will be responsible to lead the safe, quality, and timely execution of all mechanical and piping construction activities within Tunnel No.2, ensuring progressive completion and adherence to project standards and procedures. The scope includes: Overseeing the Installation of a 22” C02 within the confines of Tunnel 2 Ensuring safe working practices (incl. confined space procedures) are strictly followed Overseeing NDT and coating activities. Providing close coordination with the facilities contractors and providing Safety and Quality leadership. The Site Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing and co-ordination of the Facilities Contractors tasked with executing the associated construction scopes. Reporting to the M&P Construction Lead and in close coordination with the Area lead and responsible Package Manager This role is site based full time in Teesside. Field Execution and Safety Facilities Contractor Management: Oversee the management of Facilities Contractors' during the project works within the tunnel. Supervisory Selection: Select and appoint the Facilities Contractors' Front Line Supervisors in compliance with Costainway procedures. Meetings & Briefings: Lead the daily coordination meeting and deliver start-of-shift briefings to the Facilities Contractors' Front Line Supervisors. Readiness & Advanced Work Packaging (AWP): Verify that work fronts, permits, and approved Installation Work Packages (IWPs) are in place before activities start. Ensure IWPs are being used on site by the contractors' Front-Line Supervisors. Permit to Work (PTW): Act as an Area Authority (AA) under the PTW procedure and assist planning of permits with the Facilities Contractors. SHE Leadership: Enforce adherence to safe systems of work and construction phase plans on site. Ensure RAMS are reviewed in accordance with Costainway procedures. Progress & Reporting: Monitor daily output against schedule and report any blockers to the M&P Construction Lead. 2. Quality & Technical Quality Control: Ensure all Mechanical and piping activities adheres strictly to specifications, design, and approved Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs). Design Interface: Interpret design drawings/specs and manage the onsite process for raising technical queries (TQs) promptly. Installation Work Package Support: Support the Work Package Engineers with the development and validation of IWPs. Documentation: Ensure timely and accurate submission of all Costain daily reports and Installation Test Records (ITRs) from the field. 4. Completions & Handover Progressive ITRs: Drive the timely execution and sign-off of all Inspection Test Records (ITRs) and pre-commissioning checks related to civil and structural scope. Punch List: Lead the initial identification of punch list items and manage the Facilities Contractors' rectification effort to achieve early close-out. Mechanical Completion Readiness: Ensure the mechanical and piping scope is verified, documented, and physically ready for handover. Qualifications Ability to plan and manage Mechanical and Piping construction activities Demonstrate sufficient experience (Five years plus) in a similar role on a large-scale project. Proven experience in supervising mechanical and piping construction teams on brownfield projects and upper tier COMAH sites. Ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently and effectively. Knowledge of UK construction safety regulations and procedures. Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications. Experience in progress reporting and record keeping Permit to Work (PTW) experience Ability to communicate with multi-disciplined engineering and specialist pipelines teams. Safety, Health and Environmental Leadership To be apprentice trained or have a discipline-specific qualification or trade background – i.e., C Guilds, NVQ 3 or above (HNC/D) in a Mechanical & Piping Engineering subject. Safety Critical Medical Desirable Previous experience of working within Tunnel No.2 Knowledge of advanced work packaging Familiarity with relevant software like AutoCAD, GIS or other design and project management tools. Behavioural Safety Management training. Understand managing Temporary Works Have experience with complex rigging and lifting activities
