This is an exciting time to join the expanding Acute Stroke Service at East Kent University Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust (EKHUFT). Our service is developing a new 54-bed acute stroke unit at William Harvey Hospital in 2027, alongside a system-funded local stroke Mechanical Thrombectomy service at Kent and Canterbury Hospital. To support these developments, we are enhancing our stroke nursing team to continue providing top-tier stroke care. We invite you to join our team of hyperacute nurses.
This role involves 60% clinical work and 40% management and leadership responsibilities, with a working pattern of 5/7 days.
Role Overview
The post-holder will be a frontline lead for the hyperacute Stroke Nursing Team, working autonomously within the Stroke Scope of Practice. Responsibilities include providing clinical, operational, and day-to-day support, responding to urgent stroke calls, facilitating rapid assessments, and initiating hyperacute care protocols. The role requires ensuring adequate staffing coverage, collaborating with the wider stroke MDT, and demonstrating transformational and compassionate leadership.
Additional Responsibilities
* Rotating between ward-based (HASU) and front-door duties.
* Providing clinical supervision and working with the stroke Clinical Educator to foster a learning environment.
* Developing a robust PDP for self and staff.
* Ensuring compliance with stroke-specific national and local quality standards, including documentation for audits.

Qualifications and Practice Level
The post requires an advanced level of practice, utilizing postgraduate experience, knowledge, and skills in stroke specialty. You will manage aspects of patient care collaboratively within your scope of practice, aligned with the four pillars of practice: Clinical Practice, Leadership, Facilitating Learning, and Evidence, Research, and Development.
