Technician – Animal Management and Land Based Studies
Hours: Part time (15hrs per week, all year round) Duration: Permanent Salary: £25,456 (£10,320 pro‑rate) per annum + benefits
The Role
As one of our technicians your role is to be responsible for the welfare and health of the college’s animal collection. You will supervise learners during practical sessions and work experience, ensuring that our animals receive full year‑round care and that cover arrangements are in place, including weekends and holiday periods. The role will also support our new commercial animal experience and animal party activities, which are scheduled primarily on weekends. These experiences require dedicated staff to oversee animal welfare, manage visitor interactions, and ensure activities run safely and professionally. You will assist the Lead Technician in managing stock control for animal and land‑based resources and in preparing and setting out equipment and materials for practical work and demonstrations within the curriculum area.

* Have experience working within an animal establishment with a range of species including small rodents and reptiles.
* Hold a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in English and Maths, or be willing to undertake.
* Support the Lead Technician in stock control, preparation of equipment, and the supervision of learners.
* Assist in organising and delivering commercial animal experiences and visitor activities.
Qualifications & Experience
Experience of working within an animal establishment with a range of species including small rodents and reptiles. Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in English and Maths, or willingness to undertake. No candidate must meet all criteria perfectly; we encourage applications if experience differs.
Department Info
Report to the Curriculum Team Leader; day‑to‑day supervision by the Lead Technician. Work closely with other staff within the Curriculum Area such as Lecturers, Industry Skills Coach and Curriculum Manager.
