Overview
Learn Welsh North West at Bangor University is one of 10 providers of Welsh courses for the National Centre for Learning Welsh. Since the 1st of August 2016, Learn Welsh North West has been responsible for teaching Welsh to adults across the counties of Anglesey, Gwynedd and Conwy.
Main purpose of the role
1. Supporting the staff of Holyhead High School to learn Welsh and to gain confidence in the Welsh language, and enable them to be confident to teach through the medium of Welsh.
2. Supporting the school to plan and map the progress of the staff's language skills across the range of Learn Welsh levels, and that over a specific period of time.
3. Teaching a community class in the evening.
Main duties and responsibilities
The tutor will provide the following service:
4. Assessing staff's initial language levels (if necessary) and tracking their linguistic progress.
5. Providing appropriate and suitable Learn Welsh lessons for individuals, small groups and classes in accordance with demand.
6. Fulfilling the role of a language mentor, by providing advice to teachers and staff on their use of the Welsh language at work.
7. Reaching an agreement with the school on a reasonable timetable that allows staff to commit to lessons.
8. The post holder is expected to complete a Start to Teach Qualification: WJEC Level 4 Certificate for Tutors (if not already completed).
The school/Local Authority will:
9. Provide a point of contact for the tutor from the Senior Management team.
10. Ensure that staff are aware of the offer and support.
11. Ensure that staff are released to attend lessons, in accordance with the agreed timetable.
12. Provide a suitable space for the tutor to carry out their work.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
13. The post-holder will be expected to participate in performance reviews and development activities.

15. The post holder has a general and legal duty of care in relation to health, safety and wellbeing and must take all reasonable steps to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for themselves and for other members of staff, students and visitors affected by their actions or inactions. The post holder is also required to comply with all applicable health and safety policies, procedures and risk assessments.
16. The post holder in required to comply with the relevant legal and financial policies and procedures, and be aware of their responsibility in terms of the legal requirements of the post.
Person Specification
Essential
17. A standard degree in any relevant field,
18. An excellent educator with substantial teaching experience,
19. Experience of advising and supporting learners to use the Welsh language effectively,
20. Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Welsh.
21. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with others and as part of a team,
22. Ability to work methodically with forward planning and to meet deadlines,
23. Excellent IT skills for teaching and administration,
24. Ability to work independently as required,
25. Enthusiasm for the Welsh language,
26. A proactive approach to supporting new speakers,
Desirable
27. Start to Teach Qualification: WJEC Level 4 Certificate for Welsh tutors, or equivalent experience,
28. Experience of working in a school as a teacher,
29. Experience of teaching Welsh courses for adults at all levels.
