A Council in Scotland is seeking an experienced Fire Safety Advisor to join on an initial 6 month contract. In this critical role, you will assess and analyse fire safety data provided by external consultants, prioritise tasks, and allocate work to our Fire Engineers. Additionally, you will carry out fire surveys to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations, risk management standards, and best practices. As a Fire Safety Advisor, you will be integral to improving fire safety practices across the council's estates, ensuring both residents and staff are protected from fire hazards. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to implement and maintain comprehensive fire safety strategies. Key Responsibilities: Data Assessment & Analysis: Review and assess fire safety reports and risk assessments provided by external consultants, ensuring they meet legal and regulatory standards. Identify critical risks and areas requiring immediate attention. Work Allocation & Prioritisation: Prioritise fire safety tasks based on risk levels, project timelines, and available resources. Allocate appropriate tasks to Fire Engineers, ensuring that all work is completed efficiently and on schedule. Fire Surveys: Conduct fire safety surveys of buildings, including residential and commercial properties, to assess fire risks and ensure compliance with fire safety regulations. Identify any areas of concern and recommend necessary actions to mitigate risks. Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with fire engineers, consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and effective implementation of fire safety strategies. Report findings and progress to senior management and relevant departments. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all fire safety activities comply with Scottish fire safety regulations, building codes, and industry standards. Keep up-to-date with changes in legislation and best practices in fire safety. Fire Safety Strategy Development: Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of fire safety policies, procedures, and emergency response plans for the council. Training & Awareness: Provide advice and guidance on fire safety best practices, and support the development and delivery of training for council staff, contractors, and residents. Essential Qualifications & Experience: Professional Qualifications: A relevant qualification in Fire Safety (e.g., NEBOSH Fire Safety, IFE Fire Risk Assessment) or equivalent industry-recognised certification. Experience: Significant experience in fire safety management, risk assessments, and fire surveys, ideally within a local government, housing, or public sector environment. Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation, risk management principles, and the ability to interpret complex fire safety data. Experience using fire safety software and systems for reporting and tracking. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Organisational Skills: Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, allocate resources effectively, and meet deadlines. Practical Experience: Experience in conducting on-site fire safety surveys, hazard identification, and risk assessments across various types of buildings (residential, commercial, etc.). Desirable Qualifications & Experience: Fire Engineer Experience: Experience as a Fire Engineer or in a similar technical role, with a deep understanding of fire safety engineering principles. Leadership Skills: Experience in leading or managing a team of fire engineers or technical staff, with the ability to motivate and guide colleagues.
