Project Engineering Lead – GCAP IRST-EOTS
We are seeking a Project Engineering Lead to deliver the UK components of Infrared Search and Track (IRST) for the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP). This tri-national project involves international partners collaborating to define and contribute to a vital Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS).
The PEL will define engineering aspects of joint work and interpret the UK contributions to IRST capabilities. The role involves engaging with a multidisciplinary engineering IPT on early lifecycle tasks such as Requirements Definition, Concepting, System Development, Modelling, and Technology Maturation.
Ideal candidates will have prior leadership experience and a strong background in systems engineering to support and focus the IPT on delivery.
You should have:
* Extensive knowledge and practical experience across different engineering lifecycle stages.
* Solid understanding of business strategies relevant to project delivery.
* Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems independently or within a team.
* Experience in early lifecycle system development.
* Skills in managing multiple activities with dependencies.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
* Experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
* Practical experience with requirements management tools like DOORS.
* High resilience in high-pressure environments.
Desirable skills include:
* Familiarity with EO sensors.
* Experience with Defence Contracts.
* Background in International Joint Working/Collaboration.
As a PEL, your responsibilities will include:
* Managing and reporting on EO sensor maturity activities.
* Line managing a system team responsible for Requirements Management, Sensor Concept Down-Selection, System Architecture, and Performance Modelling.
* Leading an evolving multidisciplinary engineering team.
* Capturing statements of work and engineering management plans for international and UK project phases.
* Ensuring adherence to Lifecycle Management and engineering processes.
* Collaborating with UK and International Engineering Management teams for decision-making.
* Maintaining effective communication across project disciplines.
* Supporting your team to meet commitments.
This role requires regular international travel and predominantly onsite work due to project nature.
