Key Responsibilities

1. Curriculum Leadership
o Lead the design, implementation and evaluation of a coherent Music curriculum at KS3 and KS4 (and KS5 where applicable).
o Ensure curriculum planning isambitious, knowledge‑rich and inclusive, meeting the needs of all learners, including SEND and disadvantaged pupils.
o Keep schemes of learning and resources under regular review to reflect best practice and examination specifications.
o Ensure effective assessment, feedback and tracking, using data to inform intervention and improvement.
2. Teaching and Learning
o Model consistently strong classroom practice and maintain the highest expectations for behaviour, engagement and achievement.
o Support and challenge teachers in the Music department through coaching, mentoring and professional dialogue.
o Lead departmental CPD, sharing effective pedagogy and subject‑specific expertise.
o Ensure high standards of presentation, literacy and oracy within Music.
3. Outcomes and Standards
o Secure strong progress and attainment in Music outcomes at all key stages.
o Analyse performance data and implement targeted strategies to raise standards.
o Prepare students effectively for internal and external assessments and examinations.
4. Enrichment and Wider Contribution
o Develop and lead a high‑quality co‑curricular Music offer, including performances, ensembles, events and trips where appropriate.
o Promote Music as a subject and encourage uptake at GCSE and beyond.
o Contribute to whole‑school culture, values and events through Music.
5. Leadership and Management
o Lead the Music department efficiently, including resource management and budgeting.
o Work collaboratively with colleagues across the school and Trust.
o Contribute to self‑evaluation, departmental review and school improvement planning.
o Uphold safeguarding, health and safety and Trust policies at all times.


Person Specification


Essential Criteria

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
* A good honours degree or equivalent in Music or a closely related subject.


Experience

* Successful experience of teaching Music at KS3 and KS4.
* Evidence of strong classroom practice and positive impact on student outcomes.
* Experience of planning and delivering an engaging and well‑sequenced curriculum.


Knowledge and Skills

* Secure subject knowledge in Music and familiarity with GCSE specifications.
* Strong understanding of effective teaching, learning and assessment.
* Ability to analyse data and use it to improve outcomes.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills.


Personal Qualities

* High expectations for all students and a commitment to inclusion and equity.
* Enthusiastic, reflective and committed to professional development.
* Strong commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing.
* Willingness to contribute positively to the wider life of the school.
