Assistant General Counsel, Head of Commercial Legal, Europe and International

Position summary:

Key responsibilities:

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:

1. Provide legal advice and support on European and international commercial, policy, and advocacy matters, ensuring alignment with ViiV’s global strategy
2. Collaborate with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to identify and manage legal risks, offering practical solutions to complex challenges
3. Lead the development and implementation of legal strategies to support ViiV’s international commercial operations
4. Manage external legal counsel, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality support for business needs
5. Deliver training and guidance to internal teams on legal and compliance matters, fostering a culture of accountability and awareness
6. Represent ViiV in external engagements, including negotiations and advocacy efforts, to advance the company’s objectives

Basic Qualifications:

We are seeking professionals with the following required skills and qualifications to help us achieve our goals:

7. Qualified lawyer with a recognized legal qualification (e.g., solicitor, barrister, or equivalent)
8. At least 10 years of experience in providing legal advice on European and international commercial, policy, and advocacy matters within the pharmaceutical, healthcare, or life sciences sector or coming from a law firm working as a counselor for the mentioned industries
9. Proven ability to manage complex legal issues in a global, matrixed organization
10. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across diverse teams
11. Demonstrated ability to manage external legal counsel and deliver cost-effective solutions
12. Fluent in English, with excellent drafting and negotiation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

13. Knowledge of European and international regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements relevant to the global pharmaceutical industry
14. Familiarity with public policy, advocacy, or government affairs relevant to the global pharmaceutical industry
15. Strong analytical skills and the ability to provide strategic input on legal and business risks
16. Experience in delivering training and building legal awareness within organizations
17. Ability to navigate ambiguity and provide clear, actionable advice in fast-paced environments

This role is hybrid, with a mix of remote and on-site work at our UK office
