Senior Clinical Research Fellow in Epilepsy and EEG
12 months (Fixed Term 1 year) - Part time - 30 hours per week
This clinical research fellowship is designed to allow an experienced neurology/neurophysiology trainee to gain academic and clinical experience in Epilepsy and EEG over a one-year period. The post aims to prepare the fellow for future consultant positions with an academic interest in Epilepsy and/or EEG.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Identifying and including patients to clinical research studies adopted to the national portfolio and registered with CRN, leading to peer‑reviewed publications and international presentations; following Research Ethics Committee approvals and Good Clinical Practice principles.
2. Collecting and analysing research data and writing manuscripts for scientific publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
3. Leading or contributing to audits and service evaluation activities.
4. Contributing to academic activities as well as clinical duties with appropriate training in the department.
5. Reporting outpatient adult and paediatric EEGs.
Specific responsibilities
1. Taking clinical histories and reporting inpatient presurgical or diagnostic scalp video‑EEG telemetry.
2. Taking clinical histories and reporting home video telemetry.
3. Attending and presenting cases in the weekly multidisciplinary team epilepsy surgery meeting.
4. Attending complex epilepsy or other specialist epilepsy clinics.
5. Developing research interests with support from the department.
6. Other duties appropriate to the grade as directed by the supervisor.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Person specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Eligible for registration with the GMC
* MB BS (or equivalent)
* MD or equivalent
Desirable criteria
* PhD
* CCT
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
* Substantial experience in Neurology
* At least near completion of CCT
Desirable criteria
* Exposure to Electroencephalography or Epilepsy
* Commitment to a career in Neurology or Neurophysiology
Skills and Competencies
Essential criteria
* Knowledge and experience in elective and emergency neurology
* Ability to prioritise clinical need
* Ability to organise workload
* Evidence of participation in audit projects/research
* Experience to work in multi‑professional teams
* Understanding of clinical risk management
