Our onboarding process starts with a friendly conversation. All our engineers are required to have their own insurance and to have their equipment calibrated at least once a year. In return, along with our engineer handbook, contract for services and branded clothing, we supply labels and technical support.

Job Description
JR PAT Testing is an expanding PAT and compliance company currently looking for engineers to join our team in Lancaster Gate. We offer self‑employed positions with flexible hours, allowing interested individuals to work either part‑time or full‑time.
Although we understand that some may travel further afield, we require all applicants to have a reasonable commuting distance to Lancaster Gate or closer.
This role offers potential earnings on a pro‑rata basis depending on the rate per appliance, the number of tests and job dynamics. Our jobs range from one‑day projects to long‑term contracts, allowing us to discuss all details and determine what works best for you.
To apply, you must have the transport or means to travel to work and equipment, hold a City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent, be reliable and honest, and have a ‘can‑do’ attitude. All necessary equipment, including testing instruments, measuring devices and additional tools, must be kept up‑to‑date, in good working order and meet relevant regulations.
Employment Requirements
* Employment Type: PAT Engineers can be from any background and these positions are self‑employed.
* Education Level: Having the City & Guilds 2377 or equivalent is the prerequisite.
* Months Experience: Proven competence in line with the C&G is the most pertinent.
* Job Location: Lancaster Gate & commutable areas.
* How Close To Job Do You Need To Live? Reasonable commuting distance or closer, but engineers can travel as far as they wish because we are national.

A Typical Day of a Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) Engineer
As a PAT engineer, no two days are the same. From hospitals to retail outlets, you work in a variety of locations and environments.
A typical day starts with packing all necessary tools and equipment – including testers and record books – into the van before setting off to the first job.
On site, you test appliances such as microwaves, kettles and computers that require PAT testing. This can involve using various test instruments to check whether electrical items are safe or need to be replaced or repaired.
After testing, you inform users of the results, explain why certain appliances may be unfit for use, and record your findings in a dedicated PAT test report book or electronic system. You may also be required to fill out additional paperwork such as completion certificates and checklists.
Throughout the day you are constantly on the move from one location to another – either alone or as part of a team – so staying organised and ensuring all tests are completed accurately and efficiently is essential.
It takes skill, experience and patience to be successful, but the rewards are great. As a PAT testing engineer, you help keep workplaces safe and develop your own knowledge and expertise.
