Mott MacDonald is a global engineering, management, and development consultancy with over 20,000 employees across more than 50 countries and 140+ offices. We work across industries, delivering work that is defining our future and making a societal impact in the communities we serve. Our people power our performance. With opportunities to collaborate, learn, and grow, the possibilities for excellence are as varied as every individual. We are an employee-owned business, investing in creating the right space for everyone to feel empowered, included, and valued.
We’re seeking a Consultant to join our Industrialised Design and Construction (IDC) team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with hands-on experience in Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) and Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), who is passionate about driving innovation and digital transformation in the built environment. Whether you are recently chartered or working towards accreditation, this role offers the chance to shape the future of construction delivery across major infrastructure programmes.
We are leaders in the adoption of IDC, helping clients achieve improved productivity, cost efficiency, and certainty across the Built Environment. Our team works across Buildings (Healthcare, Education, Cities), Water & Environment and Nuclear.
You will support delivery of strategic and technical advisory services across buildings, water, transport, and energy on our commissions, as IDC advisors to major infrastructure owners and programmes in the UK and overseas. You’ll work with clients, design teams, manufacturers, and contractors to embed DfMA, MMC, and platform-based approaches into projects and programmes.
Key Responsibilities And Duties
* Support the development and implementation of IDC strategies across client portfolios and programmes, contributing to measurable improvements in delivery efficiency and consistency
* Apply DfMA and MMC principles to optimise design, delivery, and operational outcomes—demonstrating value through improved constructability, reduced waste, or enhanced programme certainty
* Contribute to the creation and use of standardised tools, methods, and delivery models, embedding repeatable, scalable solutions across projects
* Assist in the development of IDC metrics and performance indicators, enabling data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement
* Support the creation of case studies, lessons learned, and a library of proven IDC approaches, ensuring knowledge is captured and shared
* Engage in capacity building activities, including mentoring other staff and contributing to internal knowledge sharing; helping to grow the next generation of IDC practitioners
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure IDC principles are integrated from concept to completion
* Contribute to the development of digital tools and data models that support industrialised delivery, enhancing transparency and automation
* Participate in client workshops, stakeholder engagement, and delivery assurance activities, building trusted relationships and reinforcing Mott MacDonald’s IDC reputation
