Post: Orthopaedic Clinical Fellowship in Limb Reconstruction Surgery

Grade: MT05

Contract: 12-months Fixed Term. TO START 2nd MARCH 2026

Applications with outstanding surgical, with FRCS (Tr&Orth) or equivalent are invited to apply for the above 12-month post to start 2nd March 2026. The post will be based at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Oxford.

Please note, fellowships commence on the first Monday of March.

Candidates on appointment must hold a full registration with the GMC.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will gain clinical and operative skills under the direct supervision of the consultants on the Limb Reconstruction team. The post holder will conduct clinics, operating lists, ward rounds and assist with clinical management with the consultants and on behalf of the consultants\' during their absence.

Within the team there are three operating lists per week and a multidisciplinary infection clinic once per week, involving the limb reconstruction team, infectious disease physicians and plastics surgeons. This is followed by an infection radiology MDT. There are regular orthoplastic combined operating lists which undertake single stage infection surgery.

With adequate experience, the post holder will be encouraged to undertake additional clinics and operating lists independently.

The post holder will also be encouraged to take a leadership role in management and governance in the team with appropriate support.

Job responsibilities

The post-holder must hold full registration with the General Medical Council.

The post holder must be up to date with all mandatory and statutory training.

Salary scale: Nodal Point 5 local appointment grade code MT05

With on-call availability/weekend allowance.

Qualifications

* MB BS or equivalent medical qualifications
* MRCS part 1&2or equivalent
* Intention to pursue Limb Reconstruction orthopaedic surgery as a specialist career
* Valid ALS/ILS certificate
* FRCS (Tr and Orth) Higher surgical degree BSc or other further post graduate qualification Completion of specialist training in Orthopaedic with certification


Experience

* Higher surgical training posts in orthopaedic
* Competent to perform common Limb Reconstruction procedures
* Able to manage patients under consultant supervision
* Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management and evidence-based practice.
* Understanding of research principles methodology and ethics, with potential to contribute to research
* Previous research experience with publications
* Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements, e.g. degrees, prizes, awards, distinctions and other achievements
* Able to deputise for consultant


Skills & Knowledge

* Sufficient leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills to effectively undertake the role in Limb Reconstruction surgery in a large teaching hospital.
* Ability to organise oneself, to manage time and tasks and prioritise clinical needs within limitations of experience.
* Competent to work without direct supervision where appropriate according to level of experience
* Sound note keeping skills
* Validated logbook documentation of surgical exposure to date
* Good personal and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
* Good spoken and written English. Communications skills should be highly developed.
* Experience of teaching undergraduates and trainees.
* Understanding of clinical governance and participation in audit.
* Experience of clinical audit
* Evidence of Management training and experience
* Evidence of feedback, experience of teaching course organisation
