Ward Clerk - Baschurch Unit
Baschurch Unit is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team. The position is a permanent 30‑hour per week post.
Baschurch Unit is a fast‑paced admission unit led by Unit Manager Sister Lisa Hughes. The unit specialises in the care of patients pre‑ and post‑operatively and prides itself on outstanding care from admission through to discharge.

Under current Home Office Immigration Rules, this role does not meet the UK Visas and Immigration criteria and is therefore not eligible for skilled worker sponsorship. Applications from candidates requiring sponsorship will not be shortlisted.
Main duties of the job
* Verbally welcome new patients onto the ward, admit patients and check details are correct in the Trust PAS (Patient Administration System).
* Use the Trust computer systems – PAS, EPR, e‑mail, Microsoft Word and Excel – to register patients, input and collect data, distribute information to relevant personnel and act upon received information.
* Retrieve patient information such as notes, X‑ray scan reports and other documents from within the Trust and external agencies. Prepare sets of notes for the multidisciplinary team, admissions, ward rounds and outpatients and ensure appropriate documentation (e.g., addressograph labels) is available.
* On discharge, verify all notes and charts are filed correctly in patient records, ensure discharge summaries are complete, and send notes to the appropriate destination.
* Communicate verbally, by telephone and electronically with the estates department to arrange maintenance repairs within the department.
* Order and confirm patient transport at the request of the nurse in charge, completing transport and ambulance forms before patient discharge or other hospital appointments.
* Sort and distribute mail, re‑addressing if necessary.
* Attend annual mandatory and statutory training to ensure adherence to Trust policies and current legislation.
* Attend in‑house training sessions that enhance knowledge and skills pertinent to own clinical practice.
* Assist in creating a positive working atmosphere and maintain good interpersonal relationships with clients and relatives, keeping confidentiality and sensitivity.
* Assist team members in maintaining and controlling stock/equipment, including ordering, collecting and delivering items between departments and ordering stationery and equipment on the ORACLE system.
* Maintain a working environment that enhances health and safety for patients, staff and visitors.
* Assist in data collection for audit purposes, categorise data if necessary and send to appropriate destinations verbally, electronically or by telephone.
* Communicate with external agencies and arrange times for patients to undertake investigations, keeping the senior nurse informed of progress.
* Answer telephone calls and help with queries regarding patients, relay messages to ward staff, doctors and patients, and refer aggressive or distressed calls as appropriate.
* Maintain own practice, pursue opportunities to sustain and improve knowledge and professional competence.

* Experience of using Microsoft Office applications.
* NVQ 2 in customer care.
