Electrical & Control Development Engineer
Are you an Electrical or Controls Engineer who wants to see your designs come to life? Looking for a role where you'll take ownership of projects from concept through to production, develop your project management skills, and work on cutting-edge laser automation systems?
In this diverse role, you'll have the freedom to design electrical control systems for advanced laser manufacturing cells, the opportunity to transition into project leadership, and exposure to fascinating technology including robotics integration and automated production systems.
Who will you be working for?
With more than 25 years of industry experience, and customers in 28 locations globally, Tannlin is one of the world's most established laser manufacturers. Their custom-built solutions include laser-cutting systems, automation solutions, laser-cut parts, and stencils, which are utilised in a range of cutting-edge applications across aerospace, medical, defence, and automotive industries.

What will I be doing?
As their Electrical & Control Development Engineer, you'll be joining the Systems Engineering department, designing electrical control panels for laser systems, automation components, and full manufacturing cells.
You'll get stuck into PLC programming for automated cells, safety controller programming, and integrating robotics with advanced laser systems. This is a hands-on role – you'll be involved in prototyping, testing, building, and commissioning production cells from the ground up.
Initially, you'll be supported by managers to get up to speed, but you'll quickly be given the opportunity to manage resources and lead your own projects. You'll see your designs materialise from concept to production, and there'll be opportunities for worldwide travel to support existing projects and develop new customer opportunities.
To thrive in this role, you will have:
* At least five years' industrial experience in an engineering design or manufacturing environment.
* Strong PLC programming skills (Beckhoff experience is a bonus).
* Proficiency in 3D CAD and 2D electrical drawing.
* A solid understanding of design for manufacture and manufacturing techniques.
* Good technical writing skills and a logical approach to problem-solving.
* The ability to perform under pressure and adapt quickly.
* A BEng in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Mechanical Engineering, or similar (or HND with relevant experience).
* The ability to reasonably commute to Prestwick.
* Willingness to accommodate occasional international travel.
In return, you'll get:
* Project Ownership: You'll quickly move from being supported to leading projects independently, managing resources and making key decisions.
* Career Development: With project and people management at the heart of this role, you'll develop skills that'll set you up for future leadership positions.
* Fascinating Technology: Work with advanced laser systems, robotics, and automated manufacturing cells – genuinely interesting engineering challenges.
* See Your Designs Live: There's nothing quite like watching your electrical designs come to life and being commissioned on the shop floor.
* Great Salary and Benefits: From a great starting salary, to primary healthcare and a salary sacrifice vehicle scheme – you'll enjoy a great range of benefits in the role.
* Global Exposure: Travel opportunities to customer sites worldwide, supporting projects and developing new business.
