Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon

We are seeking to appoint two substantive Consultant Vascular Surgeons to join our expanding team. The successful candidate will demonstrate competence across a comprehensive range of traditional open and endovascular procedures. Proficiency in endovascular techniques will be particularly valued.
Main Duties
* Perform a full spectrum of traditional open vascular procedures, including aortic and peripheral arterial surgery, across elective and emergency settings.
* Perform endovascular interventions, with particular emphasis on deep venous procedures.
* Work in alignment with established vascular unit practices and agreed care pathways, collaborating effectively with colleagues to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
* Accountable for the quality of clinical work, professional behaviour and conduct, operating in accordance with the Trust values and standard operating procedures.
* Retain responsibility for patient care when not on call, contributing to formal and informal clinical discussions and ensuring comprehensive written handovers.
* Provide timely advice or support to colleagues within the vascular service or from other specialties.
* Embark on a consistent weekly clinical activity at a spoke hospital, in line with the hub-and-spoke model.
* Attend the weekly Vascular Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meeting and the Vascular Grand Round.
* Participate in the vascular emergency on-call rota at the hub site (currently 1:8), with a view to reduce frequency as the workforce expands; maintain a mandatory 7-day vascular service with daily consultant-led inpatient reviews, including weekends.
* Contribute actively to departmental activities, including quality improvement forums, annual appraisal within the GMC revalidation process, and other meetings.
* Provide a formal responsibility for teaching, training and supervision of junior medical and nursing staff, and engage actively in education of undergraduate students, nurses and allied health professionals.
* Serve as clinical and educational supervisor for trainees, engaging with continuing professional development programmes to maintain skills and knowledge.
* Operate within the Trust governance framework, contributing to audit activities and quality improvement initiatives.
* Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) as part of the revalidation process and benefit from mentoring and coaching opportunities.
Qualifications
* MRCS, FRCS or equivalent
* Full GMC registration with licence to practice before employment is mandatory
* Medical Degree
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (or within 6 months of receiving CCT at interview) or CESR pathway (must be on specialist register at application)
* MD, PhD or higher degree
Clinical experience in specialty
* Demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Vascular Surgery
* Excellent all-round experience of DGH work
* Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Vascular & Endovascular Surgery
* Demonstrate clinical experience and competence in endovascular surgery
