An exciting opportunity has become available to work within the Housing Standards team in the Strategic Housing service; to regulate housing conditions so everyone can have a safe home. The position is for 1.0 FTE (37 hours) per week, Monday to Friday.
About you
Housing Standards Officers play a critical role in ensuring rented housing across Cheshire East meets a safe living standard. The role involves educating, engaging, and encouraging landlords to provide safe housing, and taking enforcement action where legislation breaches occur. To succeed, you will bring construction/housing enforcement knowledge and negotiation and interpersonal skills to effectively manage stakeholders, including tenants, landlords, social housing providers, the Fire Service, Police, and other Council departments. The role offers opportunities to work on diverse cases both in the office and on-site in people's homes. Good organisational, report writing, IT skills, and attention to detail are essential.
You will be part of a team of 6 Housing Standards Officers, 2 Assistant Officers, a Duty Assistant, and a Team Leader, collaborating with colleagues across the Housing service involved in adaptations, retrofit, hoarding support, and more. The team works on a hybrid basis, primarily from home with at least one day per week in the Crewe office, supported by Council-provided IT equipment.
Pre-employment checks include a satisfactory basic DBS check. The successful candidate will have:
* Construction knowledge and ability to analyse structural and technical reports
* Knowledge of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System and legislation
* Attention to detail and excellent record-keeping skills
* Negotiation and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with residents, landlords, and professionals
