The apprentice will gain practical experience, technical skills, and knowledge relating to land drainage, flood risk management, and sustainable water systems, while contributing to the delivery of essential public services across the county.
This is a developmental role, with responsibilities increasing as competence grows.
About you:
1. Enthusiastic, motivated, and eager to learn new skills.
2. Curious and interested in how things work in the natural and built

3. Reliable, punctual, and able to complete tasks with support.
4. Positive and proactive attitude to challenges and problem solving.
5. Respectful and professional when dealing with colleagues, councillors,
partners, and the public.
6. Committed to providing good service to local communities.
7. Ability to work safely in office and outdoor environments.
What you will do:
1. Support the team in maintaining and updating records relating to land drainage assets, flood events, and sustainable drainage systems, using digital mapping and data management systems.
2. Assist with basic investigations into surface water, drainage and minor flooding issues, gathering information from site visits with experienced officers.
3. Process simple enquiries and requests, including providing general information
to the public, councillors, and internal services about land drainage
responsibilities and sustainable drainage.
4. Help prepare routine correspondence, notes, and simple reports, including flood event summaries, data logs, and records for the Flood Risk Management
database.
5. Support the team with the administration of Ordinary Watercourse Consents, including logging applications, saving plans, and learning how legislation applies to local situations.
6. Support the Sustainable Drainage Approval Body (SAB) by helping gather
information about development sites, filing documents, and learning how surface water management systems are assessed.
7. Assist the team in collecting, organising and updating flood risk data, including mapping of surface water issues, drainage assets and flood hotspots, to support evidence based decision making.
8. Participate fully in the apprenticeship training programme, completing required coursework, developing technical knowledge, and applying learning to practical tasks within the team.
