Job Summary
Permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week. The post holder will work at Chertsey and Weybridge as part of the North West Surrey Integrated Care Services (NICS) federation of 37 GP practices.
Salary: Agenda for Change Band 5 Equivalent (depending on experience).
Location
Ashford Hospital, London Road, Ashford, Surrey, TW15 3AA. The role requires willingness to work across multiple NICS sites and ability to travel independently between locations.
Working Pattern
Contract: Permanent, Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
The Nurse Associate will support the delivery of safe and effective nursing care, working under the supervision of the Lead Nurse and in accordance with NMC professional standards.
Clinical Duties
* Undertake venepuncture, phlebotomy and oversee the phlebotomy service.
* Provide supervision, mentorship and support to HCAs undertaking phlebotomy.
* Deliver wound assessment and management, including dressing changes and post‑operative care.
* Conduct NHS Health Checks and support preventive health initiatives.
* Perform chronic disease reviews (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, COPD, asthma) in line with protocols.
* Conduct cervical screening (smear), vaccination and immunisation programmes.
* Accurately record clinical data on EMIS.
* Escalate clinical concerns to the supervising Lead Nurse or GP.
Supervisory Responsibilities
* Assess competence of HCAs in phlebotomy and support their induction and training.
* Participate in audits and service improvement activities.
Professional Responsibilities
* Work within the NMC Code of Conduct and maintain registration as a Nurse Associate.
* Complete annual appraisal, mandatory training and continuing professional development.
* Maintain accurate, confidential patient records.
* Adhere to infection prevention and control and safeguarding policies.
* Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and evidence‑based practice.
Communication and Team Working
* Communicate effectively with patients, families and colleagues.
* Collaborate with NICS colleagues to support integrated patient care.
* Champion NICS services with practices and PCNs, attending meetings where appropriate.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered with the NMC as a Nurse Associate.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development and mandatory training compliance.
Experience
* Recent experience delivering direct patient care in a clinical environment.
* Experience in phlebotomy and wound care.
* Experience working as part of a wide team.
Other Requirements
* Willingness to work across multiple NICS sites.
* Ability to travel independently between locations if required.
* Commitment to ongoing learning and professional growth.
Knowledge & Skills
* Understanding of NMC Code and professional standards for Nurse Associates.
* Knowledge of infection prevention, safeguarding and confidentiality.
