The Security Manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership, professional oversight, and operational assurance for security arrangements across the University estate. The role ensures a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, visitors, and partners, while supporting the University’s academic, research, and civic activities.
The post holder will have strategic and operational responsibility for the management and performance of the externally contracted security service, ensuring services are delivered in line with contractual requirements, University policies, agreed service standards, and values.
A core element of the role is leading the University’s approach to protective security and counter‑terrorism preparedness, including compliance with the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) legislation (Martyn’s Law / the Protect Duty). This includes embedding proportionate, risk‑based security measures, effective governance, staff awareness, and robust incident response arrangements across relevant premises, activities, and events.
The Security Manager will also hold ownership of the University’s CCTV and access control systems, including associated policies, procedures, and governance arrangements, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, data protection obligations, and recognised best practice.
Whilst there is a need to be in Portsmouth a few days a week, hybrid working is available for this role.
The interviews are currently anticipated to be held on 08 May 2026. An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this post.
