Role Description
This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for both income generation and communications, ensuring Reuben's Retreat is financially strong, widely recognised, and trusted. The Head of Fundraising will lead the strategy, planning, and delivery of all fundraising and communications activity, ensuring that ambition is matched by execution. This role is accountable for creating and delivering a five-year income plan, building a high-performing team, and positioning Reuben's Retreat as a gold-standard charity in both fundraising excellence and storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning: Working closely with the CEO to develop and implement a multi-year fundraising strategy aligned with the organisation's mission.
Team Leadership: Managing and mentoring a fundraising team, setting performance targets, and fostering a culture of high performance.
Income Generation: Overseeing and grow diverse income streams including individual giving, trusts and foundations, corporate sponsorship, and legacy giving. Ensure fundraising activity is planned, resourced, delivered, and evaluated.
Communications, Marketing & Brand: Brand Voice: Lead all communications to ensure the charity's message and values remain consistent everywhere. Digital Presence: Manage the website, social media, and content planning (with external support).
Relationship Management: Cultivating and stewarding long-term relationships with high-net-worth individuals and key institutional funders.
Financial Management: Preparing and managing the fundraising budget, tracking ROI, and providing regular reports to the CEO and Board of Trustees.
Compliance & Governance: Ensuring all activities comply with fundraising regulations, GDPR, and ethical standards.
Essential Experience & Skills
Extensive experience in senior fundraising or a comparable field such as sales, business development, or account/relationship management, with strong transferable skills in income generation and stakeholder engagement. Charity experience is welcome but not essential.
Proven leadership ability, with experience managing and motivating teams, driving performance, and fostering a positive, high performing -performing culture.
Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage corporate partners, donors, and supporters.
Experience of setting and achieving financial targets.
Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in writing proposals, presentations, and reports.
Knowledge of fundraising best practice (or willingness to learn).
Full driving licence and access to own vehicle for travel within the local area (and occasionally further afield).
Desirable Experience & Skills
Experience working in a charity fundraising role.
Knowledge of grant applications and trust fundraising.
Experience using CRM systems or donor databases.
Understanding of GDPR and compliance in fundraising.
