Locum Consultant in Diagnostic Neuroradiology

Due to maternity leave of the current postholder, this vacancy has arisen to maintain and support the development and expansion of service in Diagnostic Neuroradiology within the Trust. The role is based in the Radiology Department covering Royal Preston Hospital (RPH), Chorley District General Hospital (CDH) and the new CDC at Healthport, Preston.
This is a 6‑month fixed term post, with the opportunity to join our regional neurosciences centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria. The adult Neuroscience department is staffed by 12 Consultant neurologists and 2 paediatric neurologists with links to Central Manchester Children’s Hospital. The Neurosurgery department is staffed by 12 Consultant neurosurgeons. The Trust is expanding procurement of state‑of‑the‑art CT, PET‑CT, a hybrid interventional theatre and a new 3T MRI scanner suite.
You will provide a comprehensive diagnostic neuroradiology service and support the existing 9 neuroradiologists (4 of whom perform neuro‑intervention) and 2 head and neck radiologists.
Applicants should be CCT holders or due to complete CCT at the time of interview.
Resident within 30 minutes travel time to RPH/CDH.
Main Duties of the Job
* Provide a comprehensive diagnostic neuroradiology service and support the existing neuroradiologists, including advanced neuro‑imaging and head and neck radiology with reporting and MDT presentation.
* Actively participate in the planning, development and delivery of the neurology radiology service for the Directorate and associated network, and commit to teaching SPRs rotating through attachments within the Trust.
* Support diagnostic neuroradiology colleagues in both inpatient and outpatient MRI/CT reporting, working closely with the wider neurosciences and radiology departments.
* Possess a subspecialty interest in head and neck radiology; report cross‑sectional head and neck imaging, and partake in the thyroid and head & neck cancer MDTs, performing neck ultrasound and FNAs/core biopsies.
* Have an interest in PET‑CT, which would be supported.
* Provide support for the local and network neuroradiology MDTs.
There are substantial opportunities for the development or maintenance of other subspecialty interests.
Successful candidates will participate in a neuroradiology on‑call rota with a 1:9 frequency.
Experience in head and neck radiology and advanced neuro‑imaging techniques is highly desirable.
About Us
The Radiology Directorate comprises Radiology, Neuroradiology, Ultrasound, Vascular (general) Interventional Radiology, Chest Radiology, Nuclear Medicine (including SPECT scanning) and Oncological Radiology. Mammography is performed at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites, with additional scanning and service provision at our Healthport site. Recent major service developments include accreditation as a major trauma centre and designation as a tertiary vascular centre.

Qualifications
* Full GMC registration and licence to practise.
* MBBS or equivalent.
* FRCR or equivalent.
* CCST in Radiology or equivalent registration.
* CCT held or due by time of interview.
* Fellowship in diagnostic neuroradiology from an accredited training scheme.
* Experience of advanced neuro‑imaging techniques.
Experience and Skills
* Wide experience in diagnostic neuroradiology and MDT work in a tertiary neurosciences centre.
* Experience presenting in neuroradiology MDTs in a tertiary neurosciences centre.
* Recent on‑call working experience.
* Demonstrated commitment to working as part of a clinical team.
* Ability to perform neck ultrasound and guided interventions.
* Teaching skills for medical and paramedical disciplines.
Management
* Evidence of clinical leadership.
* Evidence of commitment to audit and improvement of clinical practice/service development.
* Ability to supervise and direct junior medical staff and other colleagues.
* Management course/certification.
Research and Development
* Evidence of interest in personal development through research and/or publications.
* Evidence of peer‑reviewed publications.
Health
* Meets professional health requirements in line with GMC standards and Good Medical Practice.
Personal
* Proven effective communication skills (with examples).
* Good organisational skills (with examples).
