Control Systems Engineer – Contract (Outside IR35) - Essex
Location: Essex (On-site, 5 days per week)
Duration: 12 months (with potential extension)
Rate: Negotiable
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Control Systems Engineer to join our client on a 12-month contract based in Essex. This is an excellent opportunity to work on cutting-edge automation projects in a hands-on, fully on-site role.
The Role
As a Control Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development, and delivery of advanced automation solutions. You will be involved across the full project lifecycle, from concept through to commissioning, ensuring high-quality and innovative engineering outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and program PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems to a high standard
* Produce technical documentation including manuals, test procedures, and system specifications
* Collaborate with customers and internal teams, providing technical expertise and support
* Contribute to the development of new products and system improvements
* Follow and support project timelines set by the Systems Engineering Manager
* Assist with troubleshooting, testing, and commissioning activities
Requirements
* Strong experience with PLC programming (IEC 61131-3 languages preferred)
* Proven expertise in SCADA systems and industrial automation
* Solid understanding of control systems and electrical integration
* Ability to read and interpret P&ID drawings
* Experience with CAD tools such as Visio or E-Plan Electric P8
* Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, CANbus, Profibus)
* Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
