A dynamic and rapidly expanding manufacturing company based in Bedfordshire is seeking a Purchasing Manager to lead and shape its procurement function. With a strong entrepreneurial culture and ambitious growth plans, this SME has doubled its turnover in the past five years and is continuing to scale through both organic growth and strategic acquisitions.
Your new role
As Purchasing Manager, you will report directly to the CFO and take full ownership of the procurement function. This is a hands-on managerial role, ideal for someone who enjoys being involved in day-to-day operations while also driving strategic improvements. You'll initially manage one direct report (Assistant Buyer) and play a key role in shaping the future of the department.Key responsibilities include:
* Leading and centralising procurement operations across the business.
* Managing a total spend of approximately £5 million, with a 2/3 focus on direct materials.
* Handling procurement of key components such as PVC and printed foil, including sourcing secondary suppliers.
* Overseeing indirect procurement of production consumables and engineering tools.
* Working closely with internal stakeholders to align purchasing with production schedules (MRP).
* Negotiating supplier contracts and ensuring cost-effective, timely procurement.
* Supporting the company's growth by contributing to strategic supply chain initiatives.
What you'll need to succeed
Experience in a purchasing or supply chain role within a manufacturing environment (pharma or food manufacturing preferred).Strong understanding of direct and indirect procurement processes.
Comfortable with a hands-on role that includes administrative and operational tasks.
Excellent negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.
Proficiency in MRP systems and Microsoft Office.
A CIPS qualification (or working towards) is desirable.
Open to candidates stepping into their first managerial role, provided they are proactive and ready to lead
