Overview

We are looking to recruit a suitably qualified HCPC Registered Clinical or Forensic Psychologist to work within Ashford, our low secure inpatient unit for people with learning disabilities. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 8a Psychologist to clinically lead the psychological service as well as having an active involvement in wider service improvement and delivery projects.

Responsibilities

* Be clinical lead for the Ashford low secure service and lead the main CBT informed group psychological programmes across the two teams.
* Administer a variety of neuropsychological and psychological assessments, conduct direct therapy, and perform comprehensive risk assessments.
* Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to support a psychologically informed ethos (including formulation, Positive Behaviour Support, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy approaches).
* Facilitate formulation meetings and reflective practice sessions to support high-quality care and staff development.
* Lead discrete complex pieces of work within the Forensic Community Learning Disability Team (FCLDT) and contribute to service improvement and delivery projects.
* Supervise and be supervised within the service, contributing to training and development opportunities.


Qualifications

Essential
* Doctoral level training in clinical or forensic psychology (or equivalent), including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the BPS.
* Post-holder must be HCPC registered as a Psychologist
Desirable
* Post-doctoral training in additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
* Training in clinical supervision.


Experience

Essential
* Skills in complex psychological assessment, intervention, and management requiring sustained concentration.
* Well-developed communication skills to convey complex information to patients, families, carers, and colleagues within and outside the NHS.
* Ability to provide consultation to professional and non-professional groups.
* Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, design and complex multivariate data analysis in clinical psychology.
* Ability to teach and train others using complex materials for diverse audiences.
* Ability to identify and apply clinical governance mechanisms to maintain practice in challenging contexts.
* Calm, approachable, enthusiastic, resilient, energetic; willingness to develop audit and research; effective teamwork.
Desirable
* Post-qualification inpatient/forensic or related clinical experience.
* Experience in teaching, training and/or supervision.
* Experience applying clinical psychology across different cultural contexts.
* Experience in adult learning disability or forensic settings and delivering group programmes.


Additional Criteria

* Flexible and adaptable working style; able to adjust to individual learning styles and changes in the work situation.
* Excellent communication skills and a non-judgemental, empathetic manner.
* Able to maintain confidentiality; good listening skills; calm under pressure; problem-solving abilities.
* Understanding of the psychological needs of people in care to improve well-being and reduce risks; awareness of evidence-based practice and a range of psychological approaches.
* Attention to detail; full driving licence with access to a car.
