Contract Duration: 2 Years
Day Rate: £550+ per day (DOE)
IR35 Status: Determination to be completed (initial 6-month SDS, with review)
Engagement Type: Umbrella preferred, but PSC considered
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead a major National Grid substation project based in Newport. This is a high-profile, long-term infrastructure project with a 2-year delivery timeline, offering an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of the UK's energy network transformation.
Please note: The business is strongly encouraging the Project Manager to be on-site approximately 90% of the time to ensure effective delivery and team coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Oversee the full lifecycle of the substation project, from mobilisation through to commissioning
2. Manage multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders including National Grid
3. Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards
4. Monitor project progress, budgets, and risk management
5. Report regularly to senior stakeholders and ensure alignment with programme milestones
What You'll Bring:
6. National Grid substation build experience, including working knowledge of NG Safety Rules, Specifications, and EPC/M&E Frameworks
7. Proven leadership on Design and Build projects, managing cross-functional teams
8. Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging clients and suppliers
9. A qualification in construction or engineering, or equivalent relevant experience
10. A recognised Project Management qualification (e.g. APM, PMP)
11. Strong commercial acumen with experience managing NEC contracts
12. Demonstrated ability to manage risk and opportunity effectively
13. Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks including HSWA, CDM, and EAWR
14. Ability to drive a project through all lifecycle stages
15. Experience managing budgets, with a track record of delivering on time and within cost
16. Proficiency in Project Management software tools
Contract Details:
17. Start: Immediate
18. Duration: 24 months
19. Rate: £550/day minimum (negotiable based on experience)
20. IR35: Client will conduct an IR35 determination for the first 6 months. A new SDS will be required thereafter.
