Job overview
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Senior Network Engineer to join our Network team on a permanent basis. This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the stability, security, and scalability of our network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and oversight of the network team during the Network Manager’s absence.
- Lead network capacity planning, performance monitoring, and reporting.
- Support the development and upkeep of network standards, policies, and procedures.
- Implement and monitor security controls across the network infrastructure.
- Execute approved network changes in line with operational protocols.
- Plan and perform routine maintenance activities.
- Maintain and update network infrastructure documentation.
- Participate in the on-call support rota.
Collaboration & Communication:
Success in this role requires excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You’ll be expected to manage your workload independently while contributing collaboratively across the wider ICT Department.
Reporting Structure:
This position reports directly to the Network Manager, who in turn reports to the Infrastructure Manager.

• Administration, maintenance and support of the Data Comm’s Rooms and network capacity planning, usage monitoring and reporting.
• Assistance on development and maintenance of network infrastructure standards, policies, and procedures.
• Administration, maintenance, and support of the network infrastructure.
• Network contingency and availability.

Experience
Essential criteria
7. Proven experience in IT management role within an organisation with 2000+ users
8. Operational experience with a Cisco Enterprise Network environment (DNAC, SDA, SDWAN)
9. Operational experience with Cisco security products (ASA, ISE, Stealthwatch, etc.)
10. Operational experience with Cisco ACI
11. Good understanding of technology and its application to business, including knowledge of LAN, WAN, routing protocols, etc.
12. Demonstrated specialist knowledge in ICT systems and procedures acquired through a combination of specialist training and experience
13. Network relevant knowledge of on prem and cloud hosted applications (Microsoft server and endpoint, Email, MS SQL, data in transit security and end-to-end connectivity troubleshooting
14. Proven ability to provide 3rd-line support in an enterprise operation setting
Desirable criteria
15. Good understanding of NHS operational and Strategic IT strategy
16. Knowledge of legislation including (e.g. Freedom of Information Act, Computer Misuse Act, RIP Act, Data Protection Act)
