Job overview
We are seeking a Band 8b Deputy Divisional Midwifery and Nursing Director to work alongside our Divisional Midwifery and Nursing Director and join our senior leadership team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. The post holder will cover the Women’s Health portfolio which includes maternity, gynaecology, breast services and the SAFE Centre (Sexual Assault Referral Centre).
The maternity service supports approximately 4,300 births per year and offers four birth place options. We have a level 3 neonatal unit on site and are the maternal medicine centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria. We also provide fetal medicine services to our local population.
This role is for midwifery leaders with significant operational management experience at Band 8a level or above, who are committed to enhancing standards of midwifery care and leading service change. The successful applicant must demonstrate commitment to continuity of carer, ability to work collaboratively with service users and the wider multidisciplinary team to enhance service provision.
Main duties of the job
The Deputy Divisional Midwifery and Nursing Director will act as a deputy to the Divisional Midwifery and Nursing Director in all aspects of the role. Key responsibilities include:
* Leading the Women’s Health portfolio, ensuring high quality care delivery.
* Managing operational aspects of maternity, gynaecology, breast and SAFE Centre services.
* Ensuring compliance with CQC and other regulatory bodies, working towards outstanding rating.
* Deputising for the Divisional Midwifery and Nursing Director as required.
* Participating in senior management teams, contributing to strategic development and transformation initiatives.
* Working collaboratively with nursing, midwifery, AHP, and patient experience teams to deliver performance objectives and workforce KPIs.
Person specification
Knowledge & Experience
* Proven track record of recent operational management of large diverse teams.
* Proven track record of integration of multiple projects across a large organisation.
* Excellent project management skills.
* Full understanding of good governance and its application to practice.
* Significant recent management experience at Band 8a or above of a midwifery/nursing team or service.
* Experience of successfully managing staff engagement and leading change.
* Experience of working within a senior management team.
* Experience of leading service change.
* Proven ability to manage resources effectively.
* Evidence of highly developed written and oral communication skills in English.
Qualifications & Education
* Registered Midwife.
* Teaching qualification or equivalent.
* Evidence of relevant postgraduate clinical education at Master’s level or equivalent.
* Member of a relevant professional body.
* Honours Degree or equivalent.
* Master’s Degree.
* Post‑graduate leadership programme.
* Coaching qualification.
