Be the driving force behind the precision that powers world‑class engineering

At Babcock we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Calibration Support Engineer at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site.

The role

As a Calibration Support Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the equipment that underpins our engineering and maintenance operations. Working as part of a dedicated calibration team, you’ll help manage the flow, status and quality of instruments critical to supporting defence programmes and essential national infrastructure.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll build strong relationships with internal teams and customers, solve problems, and help continually improve how calibration services are delivered. You’ll gain valuable experience in technical assurance, logistics coordination and customer support, building a solid platform for long‑term career progression within engineering, quality or technical support functions.

* Managing the receipt, dispatch and logistics of instruments, including arranging collections and deliveries.
* Assisting customers with enquiries and technical questions, reviewing specifications to ensure accurate support.
* Updating and maintaining the equipment database with timely, accurate information.
* Conducting routine onsite audits to ensure correct status control and compliance with quality standards.
* Supporting the mechanical calibration team and helping to maintain smooth coordination between customers and laboratory operations.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Calibration Support Engineer

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence engaging customers and colleagues.
* A customer‑focused approach with excellent attention to detail and a methodical working style.
* Proficiency with IT systems, including Microsoft Office and digital workflow tools.
* A dependable, professional manner and the ability to deliver work consistently and accurately.

Qualifications for the Calibration Support Engineer

* Level 3 qualification and relevant engineering experience.
* Ideally, completion of a recognised apprenticeship in an associated discipline.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.

Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
