Lead pharmacist – biologics and high cost drugs

Job overview

We have a role for an experienced pharmacist with hospital experience to work with the trust's clinical commissioning and medicines efficiency programme to identify, implement and monitor medicine efficiency schemes focusing on biologics and other high cost medicines that are funded by NHSE and ICBs.

Key roles include:

To work with speciality departments at the trust to deliver best-value switches for biologics and other high cost medicines.

To have a lead role in reviewing and developing the homecare services and other outpatient dispensing routes at the trust.

To review billing and monitoring of high cost medicines to commissioners.

The trust has multiple specialised and specialist services across 3 main hospital sites providing medicines to patients via various dispensing routes. The ideal candidate would have a good understanding of commissioning of high cost medicines and the ability to work with various stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

1. To manage the medicines efficiency programme with a focus on NHSE and ICB commissioned medicines
2. To deliver generic and biosimilar switches of NHSE and ICB commissioned medications alongside the relevant specialist areas in line with NHSE/ICB targets.
3. To review the trusts homecare provision and lead the developments to optimise homecare teams effectiveness.
4. To work with all pharmacy team, including specialist pharmacists to identify, initiate and implement medicine efficiency schemes; and to lead on any hospital wide medicine efficiency schemes
5. To track and monitor progress of actives schemes, as well as develop a list of future schemes on an annual and ongoing basis
To have a lead role on the optimisation of homecare services used by the trust

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria

6. Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
7. Higher degree or diploma in clinical pharmacy
8. Undertakes continuing professional development (CPD) and maintains a CPD portfolio

Experience

Essential criteria

9. Considerable experience in hospital Pharmacy, including a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice (medicines information, ward services and dispensing)
10. Previous experience in manipulating data, report writing
11. Previous directorate experience, including financial reporting
12. Practical clinical experience

Desirable criteria

13. Experience working with commissioners

Skills

Essential criteria

14. Ability to influence senior pharmacy and medical staff, the multidisciplinary team and management
15. A good understanding of national and local priorities
16. Demonstrates awareness of and commitment to the Clinical Governance agenda
17. Good clinical practice knowledge
