Impact: Europe Mechanical Engineer & Project Engineer

* Ensure regulatory compliance across Europe and safeguard operational safety.
* Lead mechanical integrity assessments and reduce failure risk.
* Drive capital project success at the Barry site, meeting timelines and budgets.
* Set engineering standards for mechanical and structural design across the region.
* Own cross‑functional collaboration to optimize asset reliability.

Life in Barry: Barry is a vibrant seaside town on the southern coast of Wales, near Cardiff. It offers beaches, good schools, friendly communities, and transport links including a direct rail to Cardiff.


Typical Day – Responsibilities

* Lead mechanical integrity assessments for high‑risk assets across Europe.
* Maintain and update the Mechanical Integrity Criticality Assessment Register.
* Develop and maintain risk‑based inspection (RBI) and written schemes of examination (WSE) for pressure vessels, tanks, and pipeworks.
* Approve mechanical and structural designs for new or modified equipment.
* Manage capital projects at the Barry site, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
* Collaborate with site leaders, maintenance teams, and engineering staff on repair plans and key decisions.
* Use SAP and other tools to report asset condition and compliance, and identify end‑of‑life or overdue assets.


What is Needed to be Successful in this Role

Required Education & Experience

* University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
* Minimum 10 years in a Mechanical or Project Engineering role within the chemical or process industries.
* Proven experience managing mechanical integrity programmes, including:
o Written Schemes of Examination (WSE)
o Inspection planning
o Degradation analysis
o Repair execution
* Regulatory knowledge of EU standards and directives (e.g., Pressure Equipment Directive, Machinery Directive, Seveso Directive).
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially with non‑native English speakers.

Preferred Skills & Competencies

* Subject Matter Expert in mechanical integrity and structural design.
* Project management skills for leading capital projects from scope to execution.
* Analytical thinking for assessment of degradation mechanisms, failure modes, and material suitability.
* Cross‑functional collaboration experience with site leaders, maintenance teams, and external consultants.
* Familiarity with SAP for asset condition reporting and compliance tracking.
* Experience developing and maintaining engineering standards (pipe classes, vessel design, metallurgy).
* Willingness to travel within Europe for up to one week at a time.
