Job Title: Sawmill Operative

Salary: £12.71 per hour
Hours: 39 hours per week Monday to Friday
Overview
We are looking for a hardworking and safety‑conscious Sawmill Operative to join our production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating sawmill machinery, processing timber to specification, and maintaining a clean, efficient working environment. This role suits someone who enjoys practical, physical work and takes pride in producing high‑quality timber products.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate sawmill machinery including saws, planers, edgers, and forklifts (if licensed)
* Sort, stack, and grade timber according to company standards
* Measure and cut timber to required specifications
* Monitor machinery performance and report faults or maintenance needs
* Follow all health and safety procedures, including PPE requirements
* Assist with loading and unloading timber products
* Maintain a clean and organised work area
* Work as part of a team to meet daily production targets
* Perform general yard duties as required
Skills & Experience
* Previous experience in a sawmill, timber yard, or manufacturing environment (preferred but not essential)
* Ability to operate or learn to operate sawmill machinery
* Good understanding of health and safety practices
* Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling
* Strong attention to detail and quality
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
