An opportunity has arisen to join BEAR Scotland's North West Operations team as an Installation Operative.
The North West Trunk Road Unit covers approximately 1,422 km of trunk roads through some of the most scenic parts of the country. It includes 1,501 bridges and structures, such as the Kessock Bridge (carrying the A9 north of Inverness) and the A87 Skye Crossing.
The unit's coverage extends from Thurso and Wick in the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, and from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling in the central belt.
The Installation Operative, reporting to the Electrical Manager, should be an experienced roadworker with the skills to perform various road maintenance operations. Training can be provided if necessary. A minimum requirement is an LGV Class 2 Licence (HGV2).
This is a full-time role.
Role includes:
* Working in a team of civils operatives on various trunk road schemes
* Erecting and removing temporary signs and barriers (and permanent signs and barriers)
* Hot material patching by hand
* Excavating and installing ducting
* Installing street lighting columns and associated cabling
* Installing and fixing temporary/permanent road furniture
* Operating power tools, small plant, and machinery
* Driving HGV lorries
* Ensuring health and safety of the public, colleagues, and yourself
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
* Willingness to undertake training and achieve competence in job aspects
* Knowledge of health and safety rules and procedures
* Physically fit for arduous working conditions
* Experience with small plant
* Tickets for plant, traffic management, and health and safety are advantageous
* Full UK driving license, preferably at LGV Class C level
* Experience working under tight deadlines and pressure
* Effective team working skills
* Problem-solving ability
* Flexibility in working practices
* Adaptability to change
* Good interpersonal, planning, and organizational skills
