The post holder will be a key member of the Burns and Plastics trauma service, working as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
As a pivotal part of the Burns and Plastic Surgery team they will be responsible for the provision of excellent
care with compassion and ensure effective communication is maintained between the multi-disciplinary
team, patients, relatives and visitors to the department.
The post holder will be responsible for implementing treatment and management plans for patients following
burns and trauma injuries in collaboration with the advanced specialist practitioners and the medical team.
There will be an element of rotational cover between the burns and trauma services with a requirement to
coordinate theatre activity should this be required.
Main duties of the job
The duties and responsibilities of being a burns specialist nurse include ensuring that all our burns patients obtain exceptional care whilst and inpatient and an outpatient.
The role will include clinically working within the Burns Management Clinics, Burns MDT clinics and Burns telephone follow up clinics.
Your role will involve planning the care for our burns patients.
You will be required to liaise with all members of the MDT team and trauma coordinators.
You will also be required to add care details to the international Burns data base.
Complete audits within burns care and attend regular Burns Network meetings to ensure that the burns standards are being met and work towards.

Provision of Effective Leadership
Ensure that the nursing team and care support team are
adequately resourced and organised in order to deliver excellent

members within the burns team, including our burns clerk.
The post holder will be expected to support other specialist nursing roles within burns and plastic surgery.

opportunities, providing clinical supervision and advice for staff and students to support them in reaching their full potential.To take an active role in the policy and service development of the
Burns nurse led clinics and trauma clinics.
Contribute to ensuring the implementation of national and local
guidance and frameworks specialising in Burns.
To contribute to the development of care pathways for people with
burn injuries, with the multi-disciplinary team and partners from
health, social care and acute trusts to identify patients most at risk
of a hospital admission.
Implement governance initiatives by acting as a change agent and
taking a proactive role in service development at Trust and local
levels in order to deliver a patient focused service.
Continue to develop existing and new Burns services to enhance
the Trust’s Burns service and evolve education and training
resources for these services.
Monitor and develop standards of care within the Trust’s
Governance framework and agreed priorities, contributing to and leading audit where necessary.The post holder will provide Nurse Specialist Support to the Tertiary
Services as a whole, taking an active role in the creation and
delivery of developments of high standards of care
Research and Development
Ensure research, audit and bench marking are key components of all service delivery and patient care.
Post holder can demonstrate they evaluate service delivery, identify
areas for improvement and initiate and manage change process.
Participate in regular audit of clinical and organisational standards.

Qualifications and education
Essential criteria
1. Relevant post basic qualification in speciality
2. 2 years' experience within Burns and plastics
3. Mentorship qualification
4. EMSB Emergency Management of severe burns – or willingness to work towards
5. Burns rehabilitation or burns acute module level 6 – or willingness to work towards

7. Research experience
8. Recognised teaching qualification
9. Trauma nurse experience
Knowledge and Experience

10. Extensive experience in and knowledge of Burns & plastic surgery
11. Experience in the treatment of Burns/trauma injured patients

13. Knowledge of local/national Health and Social Care policy

14. Experience in telephone advice clinics
15. Experience in nurse-led clinics
