Job Overview

Part‑time: 17 hrs per week. To work 1 Saturday morning in 4.

The post holder will support the delivery of direct and indirect healthcare for patients attending the integrated contraception and sexual health (iCaSH) service which is part of Cambridgeshire Community Services (CCS). This may include supporting patients who present with sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS, contraception requirements and/or any other sexual health related problems.

Responsibilities

* Work as part of the health advising team including clerical duties, not limited to management of the results notification system, vaccinations, booking appointments, follow‑up recalls, and support of service users in person and on the phone.
* Assist in the management of the recall system for patients that require follow‑up.
* Receive, prioritise and deal appropriately with referrals from local stakeholders in the form of letters, emails and telephone calls.
* Operate the stand‑alone bespoke computer‑based Lilie patient administration system in its entirety including booking appointments, registering patient details, sending texts, coding clinical episodes and supporting data collection.
* Assist the nursing team with other duties where workload allows and with prior agreement of the Clinical Nurse Manager.
* Operate additional computer‑based systems such as the online testing platform for the purposes of patient communication, follow‑up and data collection.
* Support the Health advisers in partner notification processes, working within the iCaSH Health Adviser Handbook guidance.
* Interaction face‑to‑face, on the telephone or on online testing message platforms daily with members of the public and patients. Deal appropriately with all queries to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
* Ensure that all negative clinical pathology results received are prioritised and actioned appropriately and to contact patients to inform them of results, arranging follow‑up if necessary.
* Where required by the service participate in outreach and support health promotion events when requested.
* Perform phlebotomy, read and interpret microscopy slides (following training), and administer prescribed vaccines (following training) in accordance with service guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.
* Maintain close liaison with Health Advisers and HIV specialist Nurses, communicating all relevant issues regarding the patient/client progress, including those who do not attend appointments, follow‑ups and stable patient pathways.
* Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team to promote efficient patient care.
* Always ensure correct storage of patient records as per the Trust’s record‑keeping policy.
* Liaise with other services as necessary for the co‑ordination of patient care and the smooth running of the department.
* Ensure exposure to sensitive, confidential information is dealt with in line with organisational policies and information governance policies and procedures.
* Support timely and accurate data entry and audit for performance and quality reporting.
* Assist in maintaining stock (drugs/clinical supplies) levels, adhere to CCS Medicines Management Policy, and report any discrepancies to the line manager after appropriate training.
* Participate in clinical and other audits as required with guidance from the senior members of the team.
* Prepare clinic rooms prior to commencement of clinic sessions by ensuring relevant equipment/supplies are available and restocked, and undertake tidying and general housekeeping duties within the clinics.
* Take all reasonable steps to ensure the safe keeping of patient’s property in accordance with Trust policies.


Qualifications and Competencies

* Hold the Care Certificate and deliver the associated standards of care or undertake the training at the earliest opportunity upon recruitment to post.
* Following training, and once signed off as competent, act as a chaperone and assist nurses/doctors to undertake intimate examinations/procedures and/or sexual health screening on patients.
* Following training, be deemed competent to provide phlebotomy for patients attending the service.
* Following training, undertake, read and interpret microscopy slides as directed by clinicians and appropriately document and communicate the associated findings, if required by the clinical service.
* Following training and being deemed competent to do so, administer prescribed vaccines in accordance with service guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures, if required by the clinical service.
* Maintain personal professional development and take part in required annual appraisals and one‑to‑one meetings.
* Undertake any training identified by the Clinic Manager as integral to the role requirements and specialty area and be aware of the need to develop self and strive to increase personal knowledge.
* Recognise limitations and seek direction when necessary.
