School Crossing Officer - St Francis' Primary

About the role: Join Essex County Council’s School Crossing Patrol Team as a School Crossing Patrol Officer at St Francis’ RC Primary School, London Road, Maldon CM9 6HN. Support schools once in the morning and once in the afternoon, ensuring the safety of all pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and its surrounding locations.
This position is for 7.5 hours per week approximately. You will need to be available during the 39 weeks of the academic year, 45 minutes between 08:00‑09:00 in the morning and 45 minutes between 14:45‑15:45 in the afternoon approximately, depending on individual site requirements. Uniform, equipment, and training will be provided.
Responsibilities:
* Consider the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility‑impaired people wishing to use the crossing point.
* Maintain regular contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
* Regularly assess the risks associated with operating at the crossing site to identify any problems; report problems and defects to supervisor.
* Assist in the preparation of reports on accidents and failure to stop incidents and other incidents occurring at the crossing site.
* Ensure that all uniform and equipment provided is maintained in good condition and request replacements when needed.
* Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic and ensure that the traffic remains at rest until the road at the crossing point is clear of pedestrians.

* Punctual, reliable, approachable, and enjoys engaging with the public.
* Ability to work during specified hours and committed to the academic year schedule.
