Job overview

A part-time, Band 7 Nurse, with substantial previous experience of both academic-led and industry-sponsored clinical endocrine research in children and adults, is sought to coordinate and manage studies, led by an Institute of Metabolic Science investigator which are being conducted in the NIHR Cambridge Clinical Research Facility


Main duties of the job

The post holder will coordinate and manage thyroid and endocrine research studies from academic, non-commercial and commercial sources, and will be responsible for a number of different research studies and/or centres (where the studies are taking place).

Main responsibilities include:

* Planning, coordinating and managing a range of specialist thyroid and endocrine research studies including recruitment of participants, liaison with local PIs sponsors and management of clinical study team.
* Preparing and adhering to protocols and Standard Operating Procedures
* Providing care and undertaking specialist research interventions to patients / participants together with ongoing information & support.
* Maintaining study documentation, including databases and preparation of material for publication or presentation.
* Monitoring/auditing progression of studies and preparing reports for funders & sponsors
* Maintaining professional development and presenting research to professional peer groups, funders and patient support groups.

Person specification


Qualifications

* Registered Adult and Paediatric Nurse educated to Degree level or willingness to undertake
* Evidence of continuous professional development
* Research Module
* Masters Degree
* Teaching qualification


Experience

* Considerable Band 6 or above experience in experimental medicine and early phase clinical research trial delivery in specialist patient groups with rare, genetic thyroid or endocrine disorders
* Experience of delivering and managing experimental medicine studies and trials conducted in adults and children
* Previous experience of nursing within a research environment
* Experience of formal/informal teaching
* Writing standard operating procedures
* Working with adults & children with disabilities
* Working in a Clinical Research Facility


Knowledge

* Knowledge of and experience in the specialist area of thyroid and endocrine disorders
* Understanding of evidence-based practice
* Understanding of Clinical Governance
* Knowledge of clinical research infrastructure in the UK and relevant Research Governance legislation & regulations
* Understanding of the requirements of Good Clinical Practice & possession of GCP Certificate
* Knowledge of the role of the clinical research nurse and principles of informed consent for participation in research
* Knowledge of health research methodology
* International research regulations
* Thyroid and endocrine genetics


Skills

* Good verbal and written communication skills
* Capable of working as an integral member of a small team
* Advanced clinical competence in venepuncture, cannulation, IV infusions
