Overview

Kickstart your career as a Machinist Engineering Apprentice! Learn core engineering skills and operate advanced CNC machines to ultra-tight tolerances, working alongside expert precision engineers in a cutting-edge manufacturing environment. Start your career in high-tech manufacturing with a company at the cutting edge of precision plastic injection moulding. We work closely with the medical industry, producing components that meet incredibly tight tolerances and exacting standards — all using the latest technology. As an apprentice, you'll be part of a skilled and supportive team, learning hands-on and gaining valuable qualifications while working with advanced machinery and software.


What You’ll Learn and Work On

* CNC Multi-axis Milling using CAD/CAM software
* CNC Wire & Spark Erosion techniques
* Manual Surface & Cylindrical Grinding
* Laser Engraving & Welding
* 3D Modelling & Engineering Drawing Interpretation
* Comply with statutory health and safety regulations and procedures
* Comply with environmental, ethical and sustainability regulations and procedures: safe disposal of waste, recycling or reuse of materials and efficient use of resources
* Prepare and set up conventional or CNC machines
* Operate and adjust conventional or CNC machines
* Apply risk assessment and hazard identification processes and procedures in the work area
* Monitor, obtain and check stock and supplies, and complete stock returns
* Record information (energy usage, job sheets, risk assessments, equipment service records, test results, handover documents and manufacturers’ documentation, asset management records, work sheets, checklists, waste environmental records and any legal reporting requirements)
* Read and interpret information used to produce machined components
* Apply engineering, mathematical and scientific principles
* Plan and organise own work and resources
* Follow and apply inspection, quality assurance procedures and processes
* Select machining processes
* Select and setup tooling and work holding devices
* Set and adjust machine operating parameters (e.g., feeds and speeds for roughing and finishing, loading, proving and validating programs when using a CNC machine tool)
* Apply machining operations and techniques to produce complex components with features (e.g., parallels, steps, radii and chamfers, slots, grooves, recesses, reamed/bored/drilled/electro-eroded holes, internal/external threads)
* Measure and check components
* Identify and check condition of tools and equipment; resolve issues as needed
* Identify and action issues in the manufacturing process
* Apply fault-finding and diagnostic testing procedures to identify faults; diagnose and resolve issues; escalate as needed
* Maintain the work area and return resources and consumables
* Communicate with colleagues and stakeholders
* Follow machine shutdown, safe isolation, handover, startup or warm-up procedures; escalate issues
* Apply continuous improvement techniques
* Apply ethical principles and team-working principles


Qualifications

* GCSEs: Maths (grade 9-4) and English (grade 9-4)
* Share other relevant qualifications and industry experience
* Skills: communication, teamwork, keen on Engineering, interest in technology

Once you successfully complete your apprenticeship, you'll be offered a full-time position, specialising in precision toolmaking.
