Fixture Designer
We are seeking a Fixture Designer to design hydraulic and manually clamped fixtures for single and twin‑spindle CNC machines, using CAD/CAM software to produce accurate, efficient, and production‑ready solutions.
£48k to £50k per annum
39 hours per week
Choose to work 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Thursday and 7:30 to 12:30am Friday or 8am to 5.00pm Monday to Thursday and 8am to 1pm Friday
Based in Brownhills, Walsall
Key Responsibilities
* Fixture Design — Create hydraulic and manual clamping fixtures for CNC machining operations, ensuring accuracy, repeatability, and ease of use.
* CAD/CAM Modelling — Produce detailed 3D models, assemblies, and technical drawings using CAD/CAM software.
* CNC Compatibility — Ensure fixtures are optimised for single and twin‑spindle CNC machines, considering tool access, cycle time, and operator workflow.
* Manufacturing Support — Work closely with machinists, programmers, and production teams to validate fixture performance and resolve design issues.
* Continuous Improvement — Identify opportunities to improve fixture reliability, reduce setup times, and enhance machining efficiency.
* Documentation — Produce clear technical documentation, BOMs, and revision‑controlled drawings.
* On‑Site Collaboration — Work on site in Brownhills to support hands‑on testing, trials, and problem‑solving.
Skills and Expertise Required
* CAD/CAM Expertise — Strong 3D modelling and drafting capability; experience designing fixtures or tooling for CNC machining.
* Mechanical Engineering Knowledge — Understanding of forces, clamping mechanics, hydraulic systems, tolerances, and material behaviour.
* CNC Machining Understanding — Familiarity with machining strategies, toolpaths, cutter access, collision avoidance, and cycle‑time optimisation.
* Hydraulics — Knowledge of hydraulic clamping systems, pressure control, and circuit design is highly advantageous.
* Problem‑Solving — Ability to diagnose fixture issues, analyse root causes, and implement engineering‑sound solutions.
* Manufacturing Collaboration — Comfortable working directly with machinists, programmers, and production engineers during prove‑out.
