Under the overall direction of the Health and Safety Manager the Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for providing advice and support on all aspects of health and safety legislation and good practice in order to create a safe working environment for staff, students, visitors and contractors. They will work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels, building relationships and maintaining a presence across all sites in order to promote a positive health and safety culture.
Main Responsibilities
* To maintain visibility across all sites and to build strong collaborative relationships with all departments in order to promote and support safe working practices.
* To carry out health and safety monitoring through audits and inspections, completing reports and working with departments to resolve arising issues and to drive forward improvements.
* To monitor the health and safety email inbox, responding to queries or fielding to other members of the team as necessary.
* To maintain records of accident reports, to investigate where necessary and to actively liaise with departments regarding appropriate follow up actions.
* To support departments with advice around such topics as fire safety, risk assessments, legionella control, hazardous substances, accident reporting and first aid. To develop and deliver staff training sessions as necessary.
* To support departments with the management of their safety documentation, including advice and guidance regarding risk assessments, CoSHH assessments and PUWER assessments.
* To attend and contribute to regular Health and Safety Working Group meetings, submitting and presenting information and data as necessary.
* To monitor health and safety performance, assisting with the compilation of audit and accident statistics for inclusion in monthly reports.
* To assist with the development and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures.
The portfolio of responsibilities will be reviewed so that it evolves as part of the college’s strategic growth and success. You will carry out other duties as may be commensurate with the post which do not change the character or purpose of the post which are necessary to maintain high-quality standards of business practice.
Line Management and Cross College working
You will be part of the Health and Safety Team and will work collaboratively with professional service and academy teams across all sites.
Other Responsibilities
* To act as a role model to colleagues and students, ensuring that the responsibilities of the post are carried out in a way that reflects the standards, vision and values of the college.
* To proactively promote and support the College to fulfill its statutory, corporate and moral responsibilities regarding Safeguarding, Sustainability, EDI, General Data Protection Regulations, Audit and Health and Safety.
* Maintain a safe and healthy working environment in accordance with the college’s Health and Safety policies and procedures, in association with other colleagues and managers.
* Ensure that all relevant work activities underpin the college’s commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
* To proactively engage in sector developments and news to ensure you are up to date with the changing FE sector landscape.
