Project Manager (Exhibitions & Installations)
Join to apply for the Project Manager (Exhibitions & Installations) role at Historic Royal Palaces
We are the independent charity that loves and looks after six of the most wonderful palaces in the world. The palaces are the setting for the stories that shape us all, and we’re bringing them to people in ways that mean more to them. We want everyone to find themselves in the spaces and stories we share.
The Public Engagement Projects and Business Management team is responsible for the delivery and implementation of major public engagement projects, which help provide the motivation for people to visit and revisit our palaces and deliver our strategy of becoming a Charity for everyone. We manage planning, coordination and delivery of a wide range of temporary and permanent exhibitions, displays and installations. We lead projects, ensuring the project management is exemplary and that teams work together collaboratively to produce high quality outcomes that are on time and to budget.
We are looking for a collaborative, highly organized and self-motivated Project Manager to join the small team that delivers some of HRP’s highest profile projects and supports our innovative public engagement programme. You will be responsible for end-to-end project management of temporary and permanent exhibitions and other Public Engagement projects from artistic installations to large events. You will lead cross-disciplinary teams of interpretation colleagues, curators, designers, contracts and other stakeholders in implementing creative and impactful displays. You will manage the project delivery, keeping the team to vision, ensuring high quality outputs are delivered on time and to budget. You will ensure that our project management framework is applied across all major PE projects. You will also manage the day-to-day financial administration of projects, keeping costs-plans up to date, producing accurate cost forecasts and raising and processing orders and invoices, producing monthly financial reporting and managing change control. You will manage onsite installations and act as contract administrator on some projects as well as working closely with our QS team to produce and run build and consultant tenders.
To be effective in this role you will need to be experienced in Project Management, be a collaborative worker, a self-starter, be a real team player and willing to get involved in a fast pace and often pressured environment. Proven project management and financial acumen alongside excellent organisational skills are an absolute must, as well as a keen eye for detail and excellent interpersonal skills. Experience of working in heritage environments and on museum or heritage exhibitions in a fast-paced project delivery environment, along with an understanding of the support needed to develop creative projects, would be an advantage as would experience of procurement process and contracts.
Some out of hours work may be required, especially during exhibition install periods.
Closing date: 11th January 2026, 23:55.
